Bic Runga Performs For Fund Raiser

Corporate social responsibility is very much a part of our ethos at Schupepe.  We take great pride in supporting various charities annually and believe this helps to create a positive, insightful workplace environment.

Recently we were asked to install a couple of canopies at a venue called ‘The Black Cottage Café’ in Coatesville. The event was an exclusive soiree fundraiser for the NZ Gynaecological Cancer Foundation – this organisation, like many, is non-government funded. Well, what a spectacular soiree it was! While the event was primarily (and beautifully) managed by Paul Farnhan (‘Pitch Perfect Promotions’) and Banu Kaynarcali (owner of The Black Cottage), a number of businesses helped out and generous sponsors jumped on board to donate product for the occasion. The venue staff even worked for free on the night.

Numerous celebrities graced the fundraiser with their presence including Bic Runga who played a lengthy, sultry set.  Blair Strange and Beth Allen (Shortland Street) hosted the affair, while Boh Runga and Ricky Morris ran the sound-desk.  Veuve Clicquot ‘came to the party’ as did every well -heeled local, wallets bulging and willing to donate to this worthy cause.  A stunning fashion show and high-end jewellery and art auction allowed an impressive (and much appreciated) chunk of cash to be raised.

The NZGCF mission statement reads “to inform and educate our community about all gynaecological cancers with the aim of increasing survival rates of New Zealand women.”
Black Cottage Cafe is the ‘new kid on the block’ in Coatesville and what an impression they have made already. They offer fresh, seasonal dishes with a provincial twist using local suppliers – it’s no wonder they were finalists in the NZ Café of the Year 2013. This venue is a ‘must visit’ if you are a foodie – they even make their own fresh bread daily!  www.blackcottagecafe.co.nz

This past weekend some of our crew were in Taupo rigging two large tents for the ‘Taupo Oxfam Trailwalker’ event – a national fund-raiser for Oxfam. This is an annual event we support. Funds raised from the event support Oxfam New Zealand’s humanitarian, development and advocacy work to support positive and lasting change for communities living in poverty. The ‘Trail-Walker’ is not for the faint of heart, to be fair – a 100-km walk over 36-hours – but all funds raised at this national event go toward providing families in poverty-stricken countries with skills and livestock to ensure their families are fed, warm and safe. Donate just $25 you can be assured that 25 fruit-trees will be planted on your behalf in East Timor. Or give $122 and a family will be given enough livestock to set up a small independent farm. With a focus on self-sustainability in poverty-stricken countries, Oxfam believe that ‘you can give a man a fish and feed him for a day, or you can teach a man to fish and feed him for a life-time’.

Thanks Oxfam and NZGCF for making a positive difference!
